  • Examination -

The most important part of the procedure is making sure that this treatment is correct for you. Our doctors will thoroughly diagnose the source of discomfort or issue and make sure root canal therapy is the best treatment in your situation. They will answer all of your questions and make sure you are comfortable with the treatment decision that you ultimately decide to make.

    Retreatment -

On occasion, root canal treated teeth can become infected or cause discomfort. In those instances, our doctors will determine if retreating the tooth is the best treatment for you. Often, our doctors are able to re-do the root canal and save the tooth. There are instances where teeth can fracture or they are not able to be saved and in those cases our doctors will recommend extraction instead.

  • At our office, our doctors have specialized in endodontics, which means that they solely provide root canal therapy.  If you need extractions, implants, or fillings, then our doctors will recommend that you have that completed at your general dental office.

  • Our patient portal allows you to register, complete your medical history, and review and sign your consent forms prior to your office visit. This significantly reduces your wait time when you arrive for your appointment.

You will be emailed the link to register as a patient. You will also receive a 6 digit passcode that allows you to sign in.  The passcode, unfortunately, will expire in 48 hours due to security reasons; however, we will gladly send you a new code if needed.

  • The easiest way to make an appointment is to call our office.  When you call, it is helpful to have the referral given to you by your general dentist as well as your insurance information.

  • Our schedule and wait time does vary based on the time of year. Our office has emergency appointments available daily and we do our best to see patients as soon as possible. If you are scheduled, we also will call to move up your appointment as soon as we have an opening for something sooner. If you are in pain, please let our staff know so we can see you as soon as possible.

procedures

  • Not at all! Modern root canal therapy is pain free. Our doctors will gently administer anesthetic to make sure the tooth is numb and once they do that, you should have no discomfort the rest of the procedure.

  • Most of the time symptoms are vastly improving within 24 hours and are fully resolved within 48-72 hours. The best predictor of pre-op pain is post-op pain. That means that if you come in with severe pain, the discomfort will persist for one more night (and then greatly improve). If you come in with minimal pain, typically you have just very mild soreness after the procedure.

  • Of course! During root canal therapy you are not put to sleep and you will feel the same as you do after having a cleaning at your general dental office.

  • Please call our office! We do not want our patients to be in pain! If you have not been taking over the counter medications, please follow our instructions. If the pain is increasing or you have swelling you may need to be prescribed an antibiotic, but our doctors will determine what is best for you.

  • Extraction of the tooth is always a treatment option for you. Our doctors will diagnose the problem and give you a prognosis (success rate) for our root canal treatment. If we do not expect our treatment or the tooth to be successful for a reasonable amount of time, then we would recommend an extraction. The typical recommendation is to save your tooth as long as we expect a good prognosis.
